Most veterans know that they can use the G.I. Bill to pay for the cost of education. However, many are unaware that they can also receive these same tax-free benefits for training on-the-job or apprenticeship.

The On-The-Job Training (OJT) Program offers veterans and other eligible persons an alternative way to use their VA (G.I. Bill) education benefits. Under OJT, veterans learn skilled occupations. Employers also benefit because an OJT program is an excellent way to attract and retain well disciplined employees in hard to fill positions. There are no direct payments to employers; payments received by the veteran are intended to serve as a salary supplement during the period of training.

HOW TO APPLY
The veteran or other eligible person is referred to the Atlanta Carpenters' JATC in Local Union 225. Our program is approved by the
Department of Veterans Service for OJT benefits. Once you sign up with the Local Union 225, you will be enrolled in the Apprenticeship Program and follow the application process that ends with your completion of a VSO Form 55 (Training Request) and faxed by our Office Manager to the Georgia Department of Veterans Service (SAA) which is responsible for the evaluation and approval. At the completion of training (that requires a minimum of 144 hours of related classroom instruction) you will receive a Journeyman Certificate.

MONTHLY EDUCATION BENEFITS
You do not have to complete the program to start earning money. As a matter of fact, a veteran must work at least 30 hours a week or 120 hours during each month to be entitled to full benefit payment. While training, eligible participants draw monthly education benefits from the Veterans Affairs in addition to their salary. The monthly OJT benefits start at $878.90 per month, during the 1st. six months, $672.10 during the 2nd. Six months and $465.30 for the remainder of the program.

We meet and maintain acceptable approval standards so that eligible persons who attend may receive educational assistance from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. This includes apprenticeship and other on-the-job training.
